This system can be used to study the architecture of neural circuits, through the recording of cell-type specific neurons in combination with optogenetics. The system is equipped with several LEDs that allow for detection of cell types and ontogenetic perturbation of neural circuitry. In addition to studying neural circuit architecture, patch-clamp electrophysiology can be used to study how neural circuits change in response to experience.
